Mit dem Gigondas 2010 hat Xavier erstmals einen sortenreinen Grenache-Wein produziert. Dieser kommt auch bei den Weinkritikern gut an und erhält bei Robert Parker 94 Punkte. Die Böden bestehen hauptsächlich aus Lehm und Kalk. Gelesen wird von Hand, danach reift die eine Hälfte des Rotweins in rostfreien Stahltanks, die andere in kleinen Eichenholzfässern.

A sleeper of the vintage, the blockbuster 2010 Gigondas is a spectacular effort from this appellation. Fashioned from 100% Grenache (somewhat unusual), it exhibits a deep ruby/purple color in addition to copious amounts of concentrated red and black fruits intermixed with hints of wet rocks and spice. Consume it over the next decade.
This is an up and coming, small, high quality negociant operation run by oenologist, Xavier Vignon and two partners. As I mentioned last year, they have some important clients – Raymond Usseglio, La Gardine, Jerome Quiot, Beaurenard, La Nerthe, Mont Redon, Marcoux and Grand Veneur, to name some of the more prominent. Tasting through this portfolio in September confirmed the efforts they are making to turn out high quality wines at reasonable prices.
